PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
AUGUST 2008
Dear Members, Supporters, and Friends,
We have just half a
year to go and we will be entering our 65th year. In 2009 we will
celebrate our major visibility and growth.
GlobalTex:
As
you know, we have recently endorsed plans for a new textile show in Los
Angeles called GlobalTex: the LA International Textile Fair.
GlobalTex will premiere April 28-30, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention
Center, and the TALA leadership and members could not be more
excited. With your support, GlobalTex will launch as the
largest
apparel textile show in the U.S. and will be on par with the leading
shows in Europe and Asia. In addition to featuring top
products,
the show will attract the key decision makers including sourcing
directors, product developers, retailers, and design teams, -all of
whom will be able to conduct serious buying, trend discovery,
networking and more.
Market Center Management Company (MCMC) is
taking the lead on organizing and managing the show, which will draw
attendees from all over the world and will feature close to five
hundred exhibitors from the U.S. and overseas representing textiles,
equipment, technology, and sourcing.
Registration has begun.
TALA members receive a discount up to $500 on booth space per show, but
it's essential to sign up for the show early in order to take advantage
of this discount and to help achieve a critical mass of
exhibitors. Call Heather Wurst at (310) 339-3735 or Sue
Flannagan
at the TALA Office at (213) 627-6173.
The show already has
several staff members including Heather Wurst, West Coast Director of
Sales; Jo Ann Worthington, West Coast Director of Operations; and
Rosemarie Ojalvo, Technology Sales Manager. We have already received
great media attention for GlobalTex, and the Web site is up and
running: www.globaltex.com.
We have the staff in place; we have the
management company we want; all we need are exhibiting
companies.
We need TALA members to lead the way and work together on an exciting
new show that will give Los Angeles the honor of having the largest and
most successful international textile show in North America.
GlobalTex,
the history-breaking event celebrating TALA’s 65th Anniversary, will
take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and give synergy and
growth to the textile, apparel, and retail world, as well as bring
visibility and sparkle to Los Angeles.
Save the Dates:
Our
Scholarship Luncheon is coming up on November 19th, 2008 at 11:30 A.M.
in the Fashion Theater of the California Market Center, where we will
be presenting awards to the students of 8 participating Fashion
Schools: OTIS, FIDM, Los Angeles Trade Tech, West Valley Occupational
Center, California Design College, Fashion Careers College, California
State University of Los Angeles, and Woodbury University. We are going
to be giving away the Betty Baumgardner award and one of our guest
speakers is scheduled to be Henry Mandell, the President of Ed Hardy
and Christian Audigier. Co-chairs of the Scholarship Committee are
Eileen Ellis and April Booth and I thank them for their support.
On
December 19th, 2008 we will be having a Holiday Party for inner-city
youth who will receive gifts and love. More information will follow as
the date approaches.
In Conclusion:
Please support TALA by
actively participating in events, recruiting new members, and
supporting TALA’s ventures. Support GlobalTex by signing up for space
immediately (space selection is on “first come, first serve” basis), by
inviting all of your vendors to attend the show, and passing the
information along to everyone you know.
